Knock, Knock, Knock

"Ask, and it shall be given unto you." Matthew 7:7, KJV

While our home was being repaired, we stayed in several Airbnbs. One evening, I was there alone when I suddenly heard a knock at the door, followed by the doorbell ringing. For a moment, I thought it might be my husband, maybe forgetting the entry code. I hurried to the door, peeked through the peephole, and instead of him, I saw two young boys—maybe twelve years old—standing outside.

When I opened the door, they stepped down to the lower step. One of them spoke politely, “Excuse me, we just left the park and we have a long way to walk home. We’re thirsty and hungry. Do you have any snacks we could have?”

My first reaction was to say no. But then I paused, felt a nudge in my spirit, and said, “Hold on just a minute.” I closed the door, walked into the kitchen, and there on the counter were snacks the Airbnb host had left for us. Without even thinking twice, I grabbed several bags of chips, Rice Krispies treats, and bottles of water—so many I could barely carry them—and brought them back to the door.

The boys’ faces lit up with total astonishment. “Wow, this is a lot! Thank you!” they said, struggling to hold everything. As they started to walk away, one of them turned back, looked at me with such a tender expression, and said softly, “God bless you. Thank you so much.”

Later that evening, God began to speak to me. He said, “This is how I bless you. They asked, and what they asked for was already waiting on the counter. Imagine if they had never knocked. Those snacks weren’t for you—they sat untouched for days because they were meant for them.”

Then He reminded me, “This is what it’s like when you come to Me. If those boys hadn’t asked, they would have missed the gift that was waiting. Remember this: when I tell you to ask a complete stranger for something, do it. I have already prepared their hearts. What you need is already waiting. So ask!”
