When God Confirms the Assignment
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9, ESV
My sister-in-love called one day and asked if she could stop by for a visit. I happily agreed, and we decided to try recreating a seasonal drink we used to enjoy at a local coffee shop. It took us three or four attempts, but we finally perfected the measurements and flavor!
While we were experimenting with the recipe, I asked if she would be willing to sit down and let me record her sharing her journey through cancer. It had been almost three years since her diagnosis, and she was now in full recovery. I hadn’t planned to ask her that day, but since she was already there, I felt a gentle nudge in my spirit to bring it up.
She wasn’t prepared for something like that and wasn’t sure she was ready. I understood, and we dropped the idea. We decided to go to the store to buy more of the ingredients now that we knew what worked. We made a few stops along the way, and once we finally got to the store, I went to the register to ask where we could find the items we needed.
While standing there, we met a very kind woman with a beautiful short hairstyle of silver and black. My sister-in-love complimented her hair, and the woman explained that it wasn’t by choice—she was undergoing cancer treatments and was struggling deeply. God is so good. Right there at the register, we prayed together, cried together, and my sister-in-love shared her own testimony. By the time we finished, all three of us were encouraged.
When we got back in the car, my sister-in-love said that meeting the woman was confirmation from God that we were meant to record her testimony that very day. God is so kind and gracious. Even when we are uncertain, He provides direction and confirmation, guiding us toward His plan. We knew that our encounter at the store was no coincidence—God was showing us that we were in alignment with His will.
In truth, I didn’t initially realize God had placed the idea on my heart. I thought it was simply my own idea. But when we walk in step with Him, His leading often feels seamless, and we sometimes forget that He is the One directing our steps. We hadn’t asked God for confirmation, but He gave it anyway, showing us that this was His assignment for that day—and so we moved forward in obedience.
Key Takeaways
We thought we weren’t ready to record, but God was—and He prompted us to move.
When we walk in alignment with God, His timing—not ours—leads the way.
God often brings confirmation when we least expect it, reminding us that His ideas are guiding us.
