The Peace of God
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7 (KJ21)
In prayer, I was seeking clarity from God about the things I felt needed to be completed. As I sat with Him, I found myself struggling with the urge to rush through my prayer so I could move on to my tasks. In that moment, I said to myself, Nope—you are going to sit right here and listen to God without rushing.
I then prayed, Lord, I don’t want to rush. I don’t even want to feel this way while sitting with You. Please help me. Immediately, the words “the peace of God shall guard your heart” came rushing into my spirit. I felt His presence so strongly that I knew I needed to write it down.
It does not matter what we are facing or what tries to compete for our time with God—He must always come first. When we choose to give Him praise and glory regardless of our circumstances, He reminds us that His peace will take care of us and everything around us.
In the passage above, Paul reminded the church in Philippi that they did not need to worry about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, they were to make their requests known to God. In return, His peace would guard their hearts and minds. This peace carries a power that goes beyond all human understanding.
As I continued sitting outside, I listened to His peace and felt the gentle breeze around me. Without even speaking a word, everything had been laid at His throne. His peace adjusted my soul, removing all worry, concern, and fear. Although I have always known that we are to seek Him first, I was reminded with renewed confidence that time with Him truly brings everything we will ever need.
