Depending on You
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (ESV)
I was sitting in my office on the Sabbath, writing out my thoughts, because so many things were weighing on my mind. In that moment, the song I’m Depending on You by Gene Moore began to play. The words came at just the right time. I wasn’t sure what—or who—I had really been depending on, but those lyrics reminded me of where my true strength comes from. They reminded me that all my help is from the Lord.
So often, when life feels overwhelming, we rush to take control—trying to manage, fix, and figure everything out. In the process, we can become consumed by our circumstances. That’s when peace slips away, replaced by worry, frustration, and anxiety. Instead of depending on God, we start depending on ourselves. But praise God, He invites us to bring everything to Him, to lean not on our own understanding, but to trust Him completely.
One line from the song stood out: “Immanuel, You are always there, my present help.” It’s a reminder that Yeshua stands at the door and knocks, waiting for us to let Him in. Meanwhile, the enemy whispers slogans like, “You got this!” or “You can do it on your own!” But God calls us to something different: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
When life feels like it’s moving too fast, that’s our cue to pause, take a deep breath, and make sure we’re depending on the One who is truly in control of it all. Amen.
