Sun Stand Still
On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the Lord in the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance on its enemies.
— Joshua 10:12–13, CSB
I love reading the Word and seeing how God works through His people. We are mere human beings, yet God gives us authority through Yeshua to speak even to the sun and the moon—and they obey. This passage reminds me of Jesus' words: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” — Matthew 19:26
Because we are His people—the sheep of His pasture—we can witness unimaginable things unfold in our lives.
In this passage, Israel is in the midst of battle, fighting to take possession of the land God promised them. Joshua wants to ensure their enemies are not able to escape back to their fortified cities before being defeated. Knowing that darkness would give the enemy an advantage, Joshua boldly prays and commands the sun and moon to stand still. And Scripture says they did just that.
Can you comprehend the power Yeshua has given us? When we are in alignment with Him and walking in obedience, even the elements fall under the authority He has entrusted to us.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” — Matthew 28:18, ESV
Just as Joshua spoke to the sun and the moon, we too can speak to the mountains in our lives and see them move by the power of the Holy Spirit.
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? — Numbers 23:19, ESV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. — Hebrews 13:8, ESV
If what you're facing seems impossible, it may be the very place where God is about to show Himself strong.
