GPS 2 - Journey
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. *Psalm 23:1-4, ESV
My husband and I were on our way to a book signing. It was being held in a City we had been before but we had never been to this location, so we used our GPS for directions. Along the way, we passed through a charming little town we had never seen before. Although we had traveled that route before, we had never come across this place because we always took the route we were familiar with.
Intrigued, we decided that after the book signing, we would return to explore. We ended up having a lovely time—shopping, enjoying a great meal, and simply soaking in the atmosphere.
As we wandered through the town, the Holy Spirit spoke to me: This is how you should approach the promises I have given you. He reminded me not to be so focused on reaching the destination that I miss the beautiful moments He has arranged along the way. The most important part of any assignment is the journey itself.
Then, He gave me an example—my grandson, who just turned a year old. One day, he will be eighteen; that is part of his destination. But imagine if all he did was focus on reaching eighteen and ignored the journey. The years in between would be wasted, along with all the wonderful experiences meant to shape him, teach him, and give him wisdom for adulthood.
God then showed me that every project and assignment works the same way. The ups and downs are not obstacles; they are purposefully designed to provide the wisdom, rest, and joy needed to reach the destination. We will arrive at our God-ordained destinations as long as we follow Him. However, it is up to us to experience and appreciate each moment because He dwells in the present.
Also, complaining will never shorten the time or change the process required to reach our purpose. No matter how much my grandson may one day wish to be eighteen sooner, he still has to go through the years, learning and growing. There is no way around the journey.
Key Points:
As obedient servants, our destination is guaranteed.
There are many beautiful moments along the journey that provide the wisdom we need when we reach our destination.
Slow down and trust Him in the process. Complaining will not get you there any sooner.
